Castle of Tuixent Monument · Josa i Tuixén, Alt Urgell, Lleida Image of Josa i Tuixén, not of the place itself. No trace remains of Tuixent Castle, which probably stood in the upper part of the town of Tuixent, in the municipality of Josa i Tuixén (Alt Urgell): its remains were used to build the village houses. The place name has been documented since the year 966, and the castle was owned by Saint Mary of La Seu d'Urgell, which recovered the parish of Tuixent in 1024. Throughout the 11th to 14th centuries, disputes over its possession followed one another between Urgell Cathedral and various feudal lords; according to the fogatjament of 1365-1370, it was once again in the hands of the chapter of Urgell, a situation that lasted until the abolition of jurisdictional lordships in the 19th century.
