El Catllar of Ripoll

A former Marian sanctuary atop El Catllar, at 1,118 metres above Ripoll, consecrated on 1 January 1040 by abbot Oliba on a site granted by the count of Cerdanya beneath the ruins of an earlier castle; it lost its parochial function as the area became depopulated and was abandoned after the disentailment of Ripoll monastery in 1835.
