Castle of Montgrony Monument · Gombrèn, Ripollès, Girona Image of Gombrèn, not of the place itself. The remains of the castle of Montgrony lie in the settlement of the same name, within the municipal territory of Gombrèn (Ripollès), and hold great importance for the comarca due to their many references to the legend of the comte Arnau. Beside them stand the chapel of Santa Maria de Montgrony and the church of Sant Pere de Montgrony, which give the local sanctuary its name. The place name Montgrony comes from the Latin mucronio ('nipple', or point), although the current form was influenced by the word mont, present in other similar place names, such as Montserrat or Montseny.
