Castle of Creixenturri Monument · Camprodon, Ripollès, Girona Image of Camprodon, not of the place itself. The castle of Creixenturri stood in the settlement of Bolòs, within the municipality of Camprodon. Although some sources place its origin in the 8th century, its reconstruction is only documented in 1245, when James I granted it in free allod to Albert de Sant-romà. In 1360 Peter IV sold it to the Cruïlles couple, who in 1381 ceded it to the abbot of Sant Joan de les Abadesses; by the 14th century it had been enlarged with a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Creixenturri. The earthquakes of 1427-1428 began its decline, and in 1554 the viceroy, the Marquis of Tarifa, ordered it destroyed, as it had by then become a refuge for bandits during the struggles between the Nyerros and Cadells factions. Today only the foundations remain, covered by forest. Asset of National Cultural Interest since 1988 (BCIN 607-MH). Photo: Jac02 (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Camprodon
