The burning of the village in 1714

During the War of the Spanish Succession, on 13 January 1714 local bands ambushed a Bourbon column at Arbúcies and captured some five hundred soldiers. In reprisal, a detachment under the command of the generals Tiberio Caraffa and Feliciano Bracamonte stormed and burned the town.
