House of the Marquis of Camps Monument · Salt, Gironès, Girona Casa del Marquès de Camps, known as Cal Marquès, stands in Salt (Gironès) next to the old Mas Ribot farmhouse, property of the Ribot family from at least 1472, which passed, through successive marriages, to the Llorens, the Font and finally the Camps families. Pelagi de Camps i de Matas, Girona's leading taxpayer in the late 19th century, was made Marquis of Camps by Pope Pius IX in 1878 and commissioned the renovation from architect Francesc d'Assís Garcia i Corrons, the author of this house in neo-medieval historicist style. The complex, with a rectangular body and inner courtyard, has a square tower and an attached chapel, with rendered rubble-masonry façades, wrought-iron balconies and neo-Gothic windows in the tower. It is declared bien cultural de interés nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection). Photo: Josep Salvany i Blanch (Public domain) What to see and do in Salt
