The charter of privileges of Llagostera Historical milestone · Llagostera, Gironès, Girona Image of Llagostera, not of the place itself. In 1241, with the aim of increasing royal power over a heavily feudalized area, James I granted the men of Caldes de Malavella, Llagostera and Santa Seclina the Carta de franqueses, which regulated the dues tied to serfdom, the workings of justice — with disputes heard by local royal officials —, the rights of those who worked the land, who could bequeath their property without paying the lord, and the use of the forest resources of the mountains of Tossa, Caulers and Solius. The document governed relations between the townspeople and the king until 1324 and afterward with the Montcada family, who confirmed it in 1344, and it continued to be invoked for centuries, especially in disputes over forest use between Llagostera and Tossa. febrero de 1241 Photo: Mike Finn (CC BY 2.0) What to see and do in Llagostera
