Castle of Vulpellac Monument · Vulpellac (Forallac), Baix Empordà, Girona The castle-palace of Vulpellac, in the medieval core of the municipality of Forallac (Baix Empordà, Girona), has medieval origins: as early as 1137 Gausbert Guillem de Vulpellac is documented, and in 1269 an agreement between the lord of the place and the bishop of Girona provided for its fortification. In 1533 Miquel Sarriera transformed it into a Renaissance castle-palace, rebuilding much of the fortress on a tower that retains 13th-14th-century masonry and opus spicatum foundations that could date back to the 9th-10th centuries. The building, of two storeys in three wings around a trapezoidal courtyard, retains remains of its wall and a 16th-century chapel with ribbed vaulting, pentagonal apse and the coats of arms of the Sarriera family. It is declared a bien cultural de interès nacional (a cultural property of national interest). Photo: Marc79 (CC BY-SA 3.0 es) What to see and do in Vulpellac (Forallac)
