Castle of Solius Monument · Solius (Santa Cristina d'Aro), Baix Empordà, Girona A medieval castle situated on a steep crag above the parish of Solius, in the municipality of Santa Cristina d'Aro (Baix Empordà, Girona). Documented since 1208 as Castell de la Roca, it passed in 1210 to the Bishop of Girona Arnau de Creixell; there were lawsuits over its ownership until 1394. During the Catalan Civil War it taxed local livestock farmers, and in 1485, during the Remença Wars, it was taken by Miquel Safont de Cassà. The peasants of the area were obliged to defend it. Today it is preserved in ruins: cuttings remain in the rock, a wall with a segmental-arched doorway and a stairway, and a stone cistern halfway up the mountain. It is declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Spain's highest level of heritage protection). Photo: Marc79 (talk) (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Solius (Santa Cristina d'Aro)
