Solius Village · Santa Cristina d'Aro, Baix Empordà, Girona Solius is a rural hamlet of Santa Cristina d'Aro, in the Baix Empordà, incorporated into the present-day municipality in 1858 after separating from Castell d'Aro; its area reaches down to the sea, with the beaches of Canyet, la Corcollada, Concagats and Vallpresona. It is home to the Cistercian monastery of Santa Maria de Solius, founded in 1967 by four monks from Poblet on the site of the former 18th-century parish church, itself built over a Romanesque church from the 10th or 11th centuries. It is known for its nativity-scene dioramas, the work of Brother Gilbert Galceran i Famadas, and for its bookbinding workshop; its community has become known as a champion of the natural sites of Solius. Near the ridge of l'Ardenya, the church of Sant Baldiri de Solius survives, in poor condition. Photo: vaionnoth (CC BY 2.0) What to see and do in Santa Cristina d'Aro
