Santa Agnès de Solius Monument · Santa Cristina d'Aro, Baix Empordà, Girona A small Romanesque-style church in Santa Cristina d'Aro (Baix Empordà), part of the notable ensemble of rural Romanesque architecture of the comarca. It stands in the hamlet of Solius, next to the Cistercian monastery of Santa Maria de Solius, founded in 1967 by four monks from Poblet; the day chosen for the foundation, 21 January, coincides with the feast of Santa Agnès, patron saint of the parish. The present parish building, in neoclassical style, was raised in the 18th century on the base of a Romanesque church from the 10th or 11th centuries, and remains today the religious reference point of the small hamlet, together with the monastic community that devotes itself to prayer and maintains a bookbinding workshop.
