Romanyà de la Selva Village · Santa Cristina d'Aro, Baix Empordà, Girona Romanyà de la Selva is a small hamlet in the municipality of Santa Cristina d'Aro, in the Baix Empordà, deep in the Gavarres massif, about 6 km from Platja d'Aro. Documented since 1019, it was one of the four former parishes that formed the municipality in 1808 by separating from Castell d'Aro; it traditionally lived off forestry and farming. It preserves an old quarter of manor farmhouses, the rectory and the church of Sant Martí, with a Greek-cross nave from the 10th century and a bell tower from the 11th, as well as the dolmen of Cova de la Daina. In 1972 the writer Mercè Rodoreda settled in one of the chalets of the development after returning from exile; there she wrote Mirall trencat and was buried in 1983 in the village cemetery.
