Castle of Peratallada Monument · Peratallada (Forallac), Baix Empordà, Girona The Castell de Peratallada, today part of the municipality of Forallac (Baix Empordà), stands in the very heart of the town, on a slight rise near the sea. It is documented since 1065 as «castro de Petra Taliata», with origins that could go back to the 10th century, and its lords held notable importance in the Catalonia of the 11th and 12th centuries. When Ponç de Peratallada died without issue in 1250, the estate passed to his sister Guilleuma, married to Gilabert de Cruïlles, uniting both houses; under the Cruïlles-Peratallada family, the castle experienced its period of greatest splendour in the 14th century, being the favourite residence of its lords and hosting kings of the Crown of Aragon, such as John I in 1390. At the end of that century the remença peasants came close to setting it on fire. Photo: --Joan301009 · Parlem-ne! ;)/Let's talk! ;) (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Peratallada (Forallac)
