Castle of Jafre Monument · Jafre, Baix Empordà, Girona A 13th-14th-century castle located in the centre of the small municipality of Jafre (Baix Empordà), beside the river Daró, whose remains are listed as a bien cultural de interès nacional (a cultural property of national interest). The first documented lord was Guillem de Jafre, cited in 1243; the lineage also produced Jofre de Jafre, abbot of Sant Salvador de Breda, who built the Gothic church of the monastery of La Selva. In the 15th century the castle depended on the viscounts of Rocabertí, within the barony of Verges. It stood beside the north side of the parish church of Sant Martí; today mainly a wall survives perpendicular to the church, about 7 metres long and 8 high, datable to around the 13th-14th centuries, converted into the façade of a house.
