Valentina Tower Monument · Calonge i Sant Antoni, Baix Empordà, Girona The Torre Valentina is an old coastal defence tower, listed as an asset of national cultural interest, located next to the seafront promenade of Sant Antoni de Calonge, south of its beach. It was built at the end of the 15th century or the beginning of the 16th to watch for pirate attacks, forming together with the vanished Torre Pareres the first line of defence of the bay, completed inland by a network of towers that included those of Bedós, Castellbarri, Lloreta, la Creu del Castellar, el Mal Ús and Roura. Cylindrical in plan and without a door or interior staircase, which was formerly reached by an outer stairway, it is well preserved and is crowned by the stones that once supported its battlements. In the 1960s it became part of the residential development that today bears its name. Photo: flamenc (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Calonge i Sant Antoni
