Sant Antoni de Calonge Village · Calonge i Sant Antoni, Baix Empordà, Girona Sant Antoni de Calonge is the coastal hub of the municipality of Calonge i Sant Antoni, in the Baix Empordà, situated south of the bay of Palamós and bordering Platja d'Aro. It has about 3,400 inhabitants, a figure that multiplies in summer with the arrival of tourists. It was an independent municipality during the Civil War, when the Generalitat renamed it Sant Antoni de Mar, until in 1939 the Francoist town council of Calonge annexed it again. Its municipal area contains the archaeological site of the Roman villa of Collet, next to the hermitage of Santa Maria del Collet. It has a long seafront promenade and a sandy beach, and was the home of the American writer and journalist Robert Ruark, who asked to be buried nearby, in the cemetery of Palamós.
