Church-monastery of Sant Miquel de Fluvià Monument · Sant Miquel de Fluvià, Alt Empordà, Girona The monastery-church of Sant Miquel de Fluvià, in the Alt Empordà (Gerona), was a dependency of the monastery of Cuixà documented since 1011; the land was consecrated in 1045 in the presence of Abbot Oliba, and the church in 1066. It combines the primitive Romanesque core with later Gothic reforms, in a basilical plan with three naves and a transept. The bell tower, freestanding and set a metre away from the church, displays Lombard decoration from the early 12th century, and the current fortified appearance is the result of 15th-century works. The portal, Gothic-Renaissance in style, bears the engraved inscription “Satiabor cum apparevit gloria tua” and the date 1532. In 1477 the monastery joined Sant Pere de Galligants and was disentailed in 1835. It is declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection).
