Rom Peak Nature · Roses, Alt Empordà, Girona On the summit of puig de les Muralles, north of Puig Rom and east of the town of Roses, one of the best-preserved Visigothic enclosures on the whole Iberian Peninsula survives: a fortified castrum with two rectangular towers beside its entrance gate and a double wall filled with earth and stone. It was discovered in 1946 by Lluís Pericot, Francesc Riuró, Miquel Oliva and Pere de Palol, and its occupation dates from the second half of the 7th century to the first quarter of the 8th century, until the arrival of the Muslim troops. From its height, this ancient settlement already made use of its strategic position as a natural lookout over the bay of Roses. Photo: Pere López Brosa (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Roses
