Dolmen of la Creu d'en Cobertella Nature · Roses, Alt Empordà, Girona The dolmen of la Creu d'en Cobertella, declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection) in the category of archaeological zone, is the largest megalithic monument in Catalonia, dating from between 3500 and 3000 BC. It is a Middle Neolithic gallery grave, known since medieval times as Petra Coaperta (1214) and Petra Cooperta (1233), formed by a long trapezoidal chamber of granite slabs, with an antechamber, and a narrow passage of which only the marks of its placement in the rock remain. It stands in the Casa Cremada area, on flat but elevated ground. Its chamber measures 3.90 metres long by 3.20 metres wide internally and up to 2.45 metres high, with the entrance facing south-east. It was excavated in 1943 and restored in 1957 by Francesc Riuró. Photo: Gordito1869 (CC BY 3.0) What to see and do in Roses
