Masarac Village · Masarac i Vilarnadal, Alt Empordà, Girona Masarac is the capital settlement of the municipality of Masarac i Vilarnadal, in the Alt Empordà, a quiet agricultural village on flat land, watered by the Anyet river, with scarcely any relief above 200 metres. It lives from growing cereals, vines and olives, together with pig farms. The municipality, which until June 2024 was simply called Masarac, also comprises Vilarnadal, annexed in 1846, and El Priorat, with 287 inhabitants in total (INE 2025). It preserves the pre-Romanesque church of Sant Martí de Masarac, from the 8th-9th centuries, with renovations mainly in the 12th, of which only the nave walls and the apse are original; the monastery of Santa María de l'Om, from the 11th-12th centuries; and remains of the castle of Vilarnadal. The coat of arms bears a sword and an abbot's crosier, attributes of Saint Martin, its patron. Photo: Bertrand GRONDIN → (Talk) (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Masarac i Vilarnadal
