Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes Monument · el Port de la Selva, Alt Empordà, Girona The monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes, one of the great works of Romanesque art in the Iberian Peninsula, rises in a spectacular setting on the sierra de Rodes, on the eastern slope of the mountain of Verdera, on a ledge sheltered beneath the castle of Sant Salvador de Verdera, in the municipality of el Port de la Selva. From its ruins there is an exceptional view over the coast to the north of Cap de Creus, especially the bays of Port de la Selva and Llançà. Nearby, before reaching the monastery, are the ruins of the medieval settlement of Santa Creu de Rodes, among which the church of Santa Helena de Rodes stands out. The complex is now managed by the Agència Catalana del Patrimoni Cultural. Photo: Pixel (Public domain) What to see and do in el Port de la Selva
