Church of Santa Maria de Palautordera Monument · Santa Maria de Palautordera, Vallès Oriental, Barcelona The parish church of Santa Maria de Palautordera, in the Vallès Oriental, was built between 1562 and 1588 in late Gothic style. Its pointed-arch portal has clustered colonnettes and archivolts, two pinnacles, pilasters, cardina motifs and a finial, with an oculus above and a series of trilobed arches added in 1939 beneath the cornice; the apse is polygonal. The bell tower has three sections: the lower one, circular, comes from an old military tower, and the two upper ones are hexagonal, the last with six pointed-arch openings for the bells. The parish has been documented since the year 862; in 1936 elements of the church were destroyed, and in October 2016 a 1516 altarpiece by Joan Gascó was reinstated. Since 2010 it has been a Bien Cultural de Interés Local (a local-level heritage protection designation). Photo: Marc Pou (CC BY 3.0) What to see and do in Santa Maria de Palautordera
