The Fira Modernista of Terrassa has been held every May since 2003 and has become, within a few years, one of Catalonia's leading tourist events, with more than a hundred thousand visitors over a weekend full of cultural, culinary and children's activities, shows and exhibitions. It is the great festival of Catalan Modernisme, in which modernist towns and craftspeople and artists from across the country take part, recreating the modernist and industrial Terrassa of the early 20th century, a lively, colourful and innovative period that left a deep mark on the city's landscape, one of the capitals of Catalan industrial Modernisme, which has managed to preserve and enhance an extraordinary heritage of factories, steam mills, warehouses and public buildings now turned into a driving force for its tourism promotion.
