Church of Santa Maria de Terrassa Monument · Terrassa, Vallès Occidental, Barcelona Church of Santa Maria de Terrassa, in the Vallès Occidental (Barcelona), the former cathedral of Ègara, an episcopal seat until it disappeared in the 8th century. The present Romanesque building was consecrated on 2 January 1112 by the Bishop of Barcelona Ramon Guillem, with a Latin-cross plan and barrel vaults; the apse, with 5th-century structures, combines the horseshoe plan of the early paleo-Christian cathedral with the 12th-century Romanesque nave. It preserves geometric mosaics from the primitive basilica, some of them from the 5th century, Roman pedestals with inscriptions from around the year 140, 6th-century mural paintings in the apse, a 4th-century baptistery and font, and the Gothic altarpiece of Saints Abdon and Senen, from 1460, the work of Jaume Huguet.
