Can Torrent Pond Nature · Tordera, Maresme, Barcelona Image of Tordera, not of the place itself. The Estany de Can Torrent is a temporary flooding pond that retains water almost all year round in its main sector, to the north-east, and occupies, together with the wetland surrounding it, 6.38 hectares in the alluvial plain of the Tordera river. It holds a well-preserved riverside forest, dominated by white willow and narrow-leaved ash, with an extensive stand of grey club-rush. Its fauna is notable for the palmate newt and two singular crustaceans, the copepod Mixodiaptomus kupelwieseri and the cladoceran Tretocephala ambigua. Its main threats are the drop in groundwater levels and the possible agricultural conversion of the land. Together with the small ponds of Can Raba, la Júlia and Prats d'en Gai, it forms the Estanys de Tordera area of natural interest. Photo: Alberto-g-rovi (CC BY 3.0) What to see and do in Tordera
