Castle of Lluçà Monument · Lluçà, Lluçanès, Barcelona Castle situated on the top of a hill next to the village of Lluçà, above the monastery of Santa Maria de Lluçà, with the circular chapel of Sant Vicenç beside it. Documented since the year 905, it gave its name to the Lluçanès comarca, of which it was the head within the Barony of Lluçà during the Middle Ages, and was the permanent residence of its lords, which is why it never had a known castellan. The Lluçà family were vassals of the counts of Barcelona; the castle passed through the hands of Ermessenda of Carcassonne, Bernat III of Besalú and the counts themselves before, following conflicts between the Lluçà family and the Crown, Peter the Great ordered its siege in 1278: it was taken and destroyed in March 1279.
