The Festa de la Verema (grape harvest festival) of Sitges is celebrated in September, on a variable date, and combines the grape-harvest festival with a wine fair. It recalls the town's winegrowing tradition, historically centred on the cultivation of malvasia, which from the 14th century made Sitges a departure point to the Mediterranean markets for the Penedès region's agricultural products.
