Castle of Canyelles Monument · Canyelles, Garraf, Barcelona The castell de Canyelles (Garraf, Barcelona), which gives the municipality its name, is documented as early as 992 as an estate dependent on the castle of Olèrdola. In 1302 Bernat Marquet is recorded as its lord, and in 1393 jurisdiction passed to Guillem Sagarriga; in 1769 Charles III confirmed its status as a barony. Between 1852 and 1858 Ferran de Bouffard restored and enlarged it, works to which much of what survives today is owed: a circular tower, a stretch of wall with five battlements and a porch with two segmental arches, next to the church of Santa Magdalena. Declared a historic monument, it was acquired in 2024 by Marisa López-Teijón, who donated it to the town council in October 2025. Photo: MARIA ROSA FERRE (CC BY-SA 2.0) What to see and do in Canyelles
