Monastery of Santa Maria de Serrateix Monument · Viver i Serrateix, Berguedà, Barcelona A Benedictine monastery founded in the year 941, with its church consecrated in 1126, in the settlement of Serrateix, within the municipality of Viver i Serrateix, in the Berguedà. Declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional, the complex brings together the Romanesque church, with its Gothic bell tower, a neoclassical cloister and the monastic quarters, among them the Gothic abbatial palace remodelled in the Baroque period. The church, of Latin-cross plan with a long barrel-vaulted nave in seven bays, retains only the central one of the three original apses, with blind arcading and Lombard bands; the other two were replaced at the end of the 16th century by two late Gothic chapels. The present cloister, from the late 18th century, houses in its courtyard a large cistern that collects the water from the roofs.
