Castle of Roset Monument · Vilada, Berguedà, Barcelona The border castle of Roset stands on a rocky hill of the sierra de Picamill, overlooking the valley of Vilada; today notable ruins remain of a rock castle, with buildings about 20 metres long by 7 wide, of irregular plan due to its successive extensions, and a defensive platform on the north face. The parish of Roset is already mentioned in the act of consecration of the cathedral of Urgell of the year 839, but the castle is not documented until 1026, in a document of its lord, Sunifred. In 1309 the countess of Pallars, Sibila, lady of Berga, gave up a good part of her castles in the Berguedà but kept this one; it later passed to Bernat Guillem de la Portella, who bequeathed it to the king in 1321, and by the end of the 14th century it had passed to the Pinós family.
