Castle of la Grallera Monument · Vallcebre, Berguedà, Barcelona Image of Vallcebre, not of the place itself. Of the castle of la Grallera, now demolished, no remains survive; it is believed to have stood near Sant Julià de Fréixens, on the road to Maçaners, within the municipality of Vallcebre. It is documented from 1255, when Joan Bernat de Grallera appears as its lord with the title of miles of Baucebre; his son Bernat de Grallera, married to Gaia, and the family leased the mas Solana in 1293, in the parish of Sant Julià de Vallcebre. Although they always resided at the castle, the Grallera family had a good part of their holdings scattered across the barony of Pinós, and are documented until the end of the 14th century. The castle had no territory of its own, but remained recorded under a higher lordship, such as the castle of Guardiola or the monastery of Sant Llorenç de Bagà.
