Church of Sant Andreu de Sagàs Monument · Sagàs, Berguedà, Barcelona A Romanesque church presiding over the small settlement of Sagàs (Berguedà), documented since the year 903 and declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional. It was built in the first half of the 11th century with a basilical plan of three naves and three apses, at first covered with a timber frame, an unusual solution in Catalonia; at the end of the 11th or the beginning of the 12th century that covering was replaced with barrel vaults. The chevet, with blind Lombard arcading and a slender pointed-arch window in the central apse, is the best-preserved part, since the rest was much altered in the 17th and 18th centuries, when the side naves were partitioned and the tower belfry was raised. Between 1985 and 1990 the Generalitat restored the building and recovered its original 11th-century spatiality. Photo: Fuku_ryu (CC BY 3.0) What to see and do in Sagàs
