Castle of Mura Monument · Mura, Bages, Barcelona Castle in the municipality of Mura, in the comarca of the Bages, declared a cultural heritage asset of national interest. Of the fortification, a 7.30 m fragment of wall beside a cliff survives, along with the foundations of a trapezoidal tower, built of rough ashlar bonded with mortar. Documented since the year 978, when Count Borrell II and his wife sold it along with other possessions, it later became a comital castle linked to Countess Ermessenda de Carcassona, who brought it back into her estate in 1023. In the 12th century the castellany passed to the Santa Coloma family, and in the 13th century it entered a cycle of sales between the crown and various lords, among them the Guàrdia family, who enlarged and rebuilt the stronghold.
