Remains of the Puigterrà Fortress Monument · Manresa, Bages, Barcelona On the Puigterrà, also called the turó del Castell, in Manresa (Bages), remains of a medieval stronghold are preserved which could correspond to a castle located outside the primitive city walls; the site is declared a cultural heritage asset of national interest. Large, well-squared ashlar blocks make up the remains, which some historians identify with the castle of Manresa, devastated by the Saracens between 1000 and 1002 and rebuilt in 1074 by Count Sancho el Prior, who surrounded it with strong ashlar walls flanked by towers. Other authors, however, place the original castle on the Puig Cardoner, where the Seu now stands, and consider the Puigterrà a separate stronghold, perhaps predating the medieval period.
