Walled Enclosure of Manresa Monument · Manresa, Bages, Barcelona The walled enclosure of Manresa (Bages), declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection), groups together the remains of the successive walls the city built as it grew: a first enclosure from the 10th and 11th centuries that closed off the Puig Cardener, where the Seu was later built, and a wider one, the Mur Vell, erected between the 12th and 13th centuries to also protect the districts of Sant Miquel and the Mercadal. Few stretches remain visible today: some buildings on Carrer Arbonés and Plaça Montserrat use as a foundation the wall running along the Cardener cliff, and on Carrer del Carme stands a stretch rebuilt in the late 19th century. The only visible tower corresponds to the old Portal de Sobrerroca gateway, uncovered in 1966 when the house covering it was demolished. Photo: Enric (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Manresa
