Old Bridge of Manresa Monument · Manresa, Bages, Barcelona A medieval Gothic bridge over the river Cardener, a historic symbol of Manresa and a cultural heritage asset of national interest, which, together with the Seu and the Cova de Sant Ignasi, forms the city's most characteristic skyline. It was built between the 13th and 14th centuries over an earlier Romanesque bridge, from the 12th century, of which the bases of the central arch still survive. It has eight semicircular arches, about 113 metres in length and 25 metres at its maximum height above the riverbed, with the central arch the most slender and the others descending symmetrically on either side, following the classic humpback silhouette of medieval bridges. Partly destroyed at the end of the Civil War, in January 1939, it was restored between 1960 and 1962 by the architect J. Pons Sorolla, who returned it to its original appearance.
