New Bridge of Manresa Monument · Manresa, Bages, Barcelona The Pont Nou de Manresa crosses the river Cardener next to the city cemetery, on the road to Cardona, and once carried the royal road from Manresa to Lleida. On 18 March 1312 King James the Just granted Manresa the construction of a new bridge, directed by Berenguer de Montagut, the same architect as Santa Maria del Mar, and completed around 1327-1328. It is a Gothic bridge with eight semicircular arches of identical dimensions, with triangular cutwaters rising up to the parapet. It underwent repairs after the floods of 1617 and 1756, and in 1939 the retreating Republican army blew up three of its arches, which were rebuilt in 1940. Closed to vehicle traffic since 2001, it was restored in phases until 2022 and declared a cultural heritage asset of national interest in 2013.
