The Bases of Manresa Historical milestone · Manresa, Bages, Barcelona Image of Manresa, not of the place itself. On 25 and 27 March 1892, on the initiative of the Lliga de Catalunya, the council of representatives of the Catalanist associations meeting in Manresa approved the Bases per a la Constitució Regional Catalana, presented as a draft regional constitution before the Unió Catalanista. The document, considered the birth certificate of conservative-rooted political Catalanism, had as its precedent the work Los Fueros de Cataluña (1878), by Coroleu and Pella i Forgas, and emerged after the 1887 split of the Centre Català between its federalist current, led by Valentí Almirall, and the conservative current grouped around the newspaper La Renaixensa. The Bases de Manresa shaped political Catalanism during the following decades. 1892 Photo: Enrique Íñiguez Rodríguez (Qoan) (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Manresa
