Basilica of Santa Maria de la Seu Monument · Manresa, Bages, Barcelona La Seu, the popular name of the collegiate basilica of Santa Maria, is the most representative building of religious Gothic in Manresa. It crowns the Puig Cardener, the historic cradle of the city, from where a wide view over the river is commanded. The title of collegiate church refers to the chapter of canons it houses, suppressed in 1851 and restored in 1884; the title of basilica was granted in 1886 by Pope Leo XIII, and in 1931 the church was declared a historic monument. Despite the grandeur of the building, and popular belief, it has never been a cathedral or co-cathedral, although it has had a documented chapter since the 11th century and today keeps a few canons presided over by a rector-president.
