Castle of Masquefa Monument · Masquefa, Anoia, Barcelona Remains of the castell termenat that gives its name to the municipality of Masquefa, in the comarca of Anoia, documented from the year 963, when the count of Barcelona sold it, together with its lands and the parish of Sant Pere, to Ènyec Bonfill. Years later he exchanged it with the Monastery of Sant Cugat del Vallès, which in 1254 had its ownership of the castle confirmed by a grant from James I; already in the 12th century a family bearing the surname Masquefa is documented, probably linked to the castellany of the fortress. The ruins preserved next to the old church of Sant Pere were levelled in 1968 to build an esplanade, although works carried out in the late 1990s brought to light structures that could belong to the castle itself.
