Villanueva del Campo Village · Villanueva del Campo, Tierra de Alba, Zamora Villanueva del Campo is a town in the Tierra de Alba region, in the north-eastern corner of the province of Zamora, bordering those of León and Valladolid. It has 736 inhabitants. For its ecclesiastical buildings and its illustrious religious figures, especially in the 18th century, it is known as the town of the three towers, cradle of bishops and inquisitors. Its founding lies within the resettlement processes of the kings of León; the first record that clearly identifies it dates from 1234. In the 14th century it passed into the hands of the Fernández de Velasco family, and in 1651 Philip IV granted it the title of town. It preserves many houses bearing coats of arms — those of the Arrazola family, the count of Villapadierna, the Palace of the Inquisition — and its church of Santo Tomás has been a conjunto histórico-artístico (a former national heritage-protection designation) since 1983.
