Santa Cruz de los Cuérragos Monument · Manzanal de Arriba, La Carballeda, Zamora Declared an ethnological complex on 26 June 2008, this village of six residents spills down the slope of Peña Castillo facing Portugal, with the best-preserved mountain vernacular architecture in the area. It lies at the western edge of the province of Zamora, at the meeting point of the comarcas of Aliste, Sanabria and La Carballeda, within the Sierra de la Culebra Nature Reserve, at 900 metres above sea level. Its buildings, which use slate even in the walls, are related to those of Robledo and Ungilde, in Sanabria. In the mid-19th century it had only 18 inhabitants; around 1850 it was incorporated into the municipality of Folgoso de la Carballeda, which later moved its seat to Manzanal, renamed Manzanal de Arriba around 1900.
