La Corona-El Pesadero Monument · Manganeses de la Polvorosa, Benavente y Los Valles, Zamora The site of La Corona-El Pesadero lies north of Manganeses de la Polvorosa. Surveys and excavations carried out since 1981 distinguish two areas: one on high ground, overlooking the floodplain, called La Corona, and another on flat ground, at the foot of the hill, known as El Pesadero. The material remains place the occupation in the Iron Age, with evidence of the early Iron Age, from the 7th century BC, at La Corona, and a later Celtiberian-period occupation at El Pesadero, to which later Astur and Roman-period occupations are added. Among the documented structures, a circular adobe hut with the characteristic postholes stands out, along with hand-made pottery and remains of bronze casting. An archaeological classroom today recreates its dwellings and a Roman pottery workshop. Photo: Canaidu (CC BY-SA 3.0 es) What to see and do in Manganeses de la Polvorosa
