Calzadilla de Tera Village · Calzadilla de Tera, Benavente y Los Valles, Zamora Calzadilla de Tera is a municipality of Zamora, in the comarca of Benavente y Los Valles, beside the right bank of the river Tera, which also takes in the settlement of Olleros de Tera. The Roman road Augusta XVII once ran through its territory, linking Astorga with Braga and carrying gold from Las Médulas to the Atlantic; a highly important mosaic has recently been found in the town centre. Celtic-period petroglyphs survive at the Peñas del Cirillico, among them the crescent moon long associated with the horseshoe of Santiago's horse. Its patron saints, Saint Justa and Saint Rufina, and the Virgin of la O, arrived via the Vía de la Plata from Seville. In September the pilgrimage of Our Lady of Agavanzal is celebrated, and a Roman milestone is preserved. It now has 278 inhabitants.
