The Holy Face by Zurbarán

About 800 metres from the built-up centre of Torrecilla de la Orden (Valladolid), reached along a track, stands the Baroque hermitage of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, built of brick in the 17th century. Its interior preserves solomonic columns and a polychrome wooden altarpiece; in the upper part of this altarpiece a famous painting by Zurbarán titled la Santa Faz was kept for centuries. The painting left the hermitage in 1968 and has since been held at the Museo Nacional de Escultura de Valladolid.
