The source of the Alhama river Nature · Suellacabras, Tierras Altas, Soria Image of Suellacabras, not of the place itself. The Alhama, a right-bank tributary of the Ebro, rises in the Sierra del Almuerzo, within the municipality of Suellacabras, between that range and the Sierra del Madero, in a municipality whose elevations range from 1,003 to 1,557 metres, all of it mountainous terrain. From its source it runs 84 kilometres northeast, crossing Soria, La Rioja and Navarre before flowing into the Ebro at Alfaro. Its name comes from the Arabic al hamma, “thermal bath”, referring to the thermal waters that join it at several points along its course, especially around the baths of Fitero.
