The Romanesque Church of the Virgen de la Peña Monument · Ágreda, Moncayo, Soria Image of Ágreda, not of the place itself. The church of the Virgen de la Peña, in Ágreda, is the town's oldest temple: it dates from the 12th century and was consecrated in 1193 by Bishop Juan Frontín. It has a two-nave floor plan with pointed barrel vaults, of equal height but different width, and preserves a notable set of Gothic paintings, among them the six panels of a predella from the late 15th century depicting the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity, the Adoration of the Magi, the Presentation and the Pietà. James I the Conqueror and Eleanor of Castile were married there. Having ceased to hold worship, it is today the seat of the Regional Museum of Sacred Art, with carvings, goldwork and panels from the emptied parishes of the Soria Moncayo.
