Monastery of Nuestra Señora del Pino Curiosity · Mata de Cuéllar, Tierra de Pinares, Segovia Image of Mata de Cuéllar, not of the place itself. The monastery of Nuestra Señora del Pino, also called Nuestra Señora de Gracia del Pino, was founded in the late 14th or early 15th century by Alfonso García de Cuéllar, warden of the Reales Alcázares of Segovia and chief treasurer to Henry III of Castile, who is buried in the church of San Esteban de Cuéllar. It belonged to the Augustinian friars, and among its religious was Santo Tomás de Villanueva, who was living there when he was named Archbishop of Valencia in 1544. Located a kilometre and a half south of Mata de Cuéllar, near the river Cega, only scant ruins of it survive today on a private estate among the pines. Its titular image is now venerated in Pedrajas de San Esteban (Valladolid), where the feast of Saint Augustine is celebrated. Photo: Rastrojo (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Mata de Cuéllar
