A small hill of holm oaks near the town gave the place its name. The Adaja river runs through it, and its economy is based on growing cereals, vines and chickpeas, together with sheep and pig farming. Its church of Santo Tomás, of Gothic-Mudéjar origin, preserves windows and doors with alfices of the esquinillas type, and holds a Romanesque image of Nuestra Señora de los Huertos from the cemetery hermitage.
