European Bison Reserve Nature · San Cebrián de Mudá, Montaña Palentina, Palencia The European Bison Reserve, in San Cebrián de Mudá (Palencia), is the only national reserve for European bison in Spain. It has an interpretation centre and two estates where, besides the bison, Przewalski's horses and Losino horses can also be seen. It opened on 4 June 2010 with a bison museum and a 20-hectare enclosure into which seven specimens were released, five females and two males, from the Polish forest of Białowieża; just two months later two calves had already been born. In June 2012, six more bison were added, five females and one male, arriving from the Dutch reserve of Oostvaardersplassen, intended for a future Quaternary park. The European bison is the continent's most endangered large wild herbivore. Photo: Discasto (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in San Cebrián de Mudá
